Blue Cross Blue Shield lowers payment for therapists, pediatricians under new ‘downcoding’ policy

The insurer’s new system started in July, just as Gov. JB Pritzker signed a new law meant to curb the growing trend of health insurance companies automatically reducing fees paid to doctors. But the new law doesn’t go into effect until 2028.
